Nathan James is looking for a Director of People Operations to join our team to manage and oversee our People Operations Division and provide key leadership to achieve our mission of hiring and retaining happy and motivated people. We do this by building people-first programs within our Recruiting & Team Member Experience groups that cultivate a strong, cohesive, and high-performing culture enabling each team member to do their best work while achieving or growing toward their professional goals.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

A person who will be happy, fulfilled, and successful in this role and as a remote team member at Nathan James is someone who values life and identity outside of work.

For this role we do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the North America workday (currently UTC-5) without impinging on your personal/family life.

In this role, you will be the Division Owner of our People Operations Division and will report to our Head of People Operations overseeing both our Recruiting and Team Member Experience groups to start, as well as future groups under the People umbrella as we grow. Our Recruiting & Team Member Experience groups oversee all day-to-day employee life-cycle activities, projects, and programs.

A close partnership with you and our Head of People will be key in supporting quarterly and yearly planning and execution, divisional infrastructure planning, overseeing performance management programs, benefits & compensation, and short term strategy and budgeting.

You will also partner closely with business stakeholders to formulate and execute plans to optimize structure, people, systems, and processes.

You, and the team you will manage, will be responsible for providing both strategic and tactical support within the business. You will be the core of the People Operations Division and as such, you should be comfortable managing up, down, and sideway.

Outside of your Director level expectations, you will act as an effective coach to our key business stakeholders, drive the evolution of both recruiting and people policies, programs and practices within the company, and ensure the People function is maintaining our current people programs and will continuously improve their consumption, management, and scalability.

ABOUT YOU:

We’re looking for a down to earth individual who gets a lot of joy and satisfaction seeing people happy and reaching their full potential. This means giving continuous feedback and coaching comes very natural to you. You should be a stellar communicator, even when you have to communicate less-than-stellar news. You understand radical candor and appreciate why it’s so important.

Being able to build trust easily is key to success in this role — you should have a highly tuned sense of compassion and empathy, but also be as fine tuned when it comes to tactical and strategic thinking. Not just on the people side but within the business as a whole as it relates to overall business strategy. Having a balance of both is critical to setting you for success in this role.

You have start-up experience, have grown small teams into medium teams, and built processes from scratch. You love supporting people, have a low ego, a knack for continuous improvement and understand when to implement the right things at the right scale, while having the ability to say “no” in order to prioritize the best for the business.

On a granular level we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of experience in a Director level role
  • 4+ years of experience as a manager with 2+ years of experience overseeing People Operations & Recruiting
  • Experience in international employment/labor law, HR administration, organizational development, staffing, project management and budgeting
  • Experience building compensation and benefit frameworks
  • Experience building people programs centered around inclusion & belonging efforts across all teams; educating and promoting awareness, and ensuring an inclusive work environment that fosters inclusivity and allyship
  • Someone who can creatively identify solutions for a wide variety of problems
  • Experience building upon company-wide performance management programs that reward growth and drive continuous, transparent feedback
