A key component of Mozilla Foundation’s strategy is to invest in the leaders at the forefront of the Internet Health movement. Through awards and fellowships. It does so by amplifying the projects that these individuals lead, and also by investing in the growth and development of these leaders.

The Program Officer articulates and executes on strategy for an assigned portfolio of investments.

This person will have a real passion for building a high quality, transformative experience to help engage and support fellows and other partners to craft a more open and healthy internet. You will work to support current fellows and alumni as they continue into new leadership roles within the Internet Health Movement. As part of the larger Leadership Programs team, you will also work collaboratively across fellowship and award investments as assigned. This role reports to the Director, Leadership Programs.

Primary responsibilities:

Partner Management

Funder/Partners:

  • You will handle relationships with current and potential donors and other relevant partners.

Fellows:

  • You will be an active thought partner and advisor to the fellows, enabling them to achieve all desired strategic outcomes from the fellowship. Note that the fellows that this program officer supports will be working in the technology policy area; being able to effectively partner with them as a peer will be a key requirement of this role
  • You will serve as a coach to the fellows, helping them think of ways to sustain impact beyond their active fellowship
  • You will support fellows within the assigned portfolio in line with both the strategy developed by the Fellowship Lead and the larger goals of Mozilla as a whole
  • You will Build regular connection between the portfolio of fellows, and the fellows community in general, through regular calls and check-ins.

Alumni:

  • Ensure fellows stay connected and engaged with Mozilla and the Internet Health Movement for the long run.
  • Track and support the continued leadership of alumni fellows in the Internet Health Movement

Internal:

  • You will collaborate with relevant internal teams (Communications, Legal, Operations, etc) to ensure the program and the projects are in line with Mozilla’s mission and responsibility as a non-profit organization.

Program Design, Development and execution

  • Program Design and Execution: Design and be responsible for the execution of systematic ways to engage and support the assigned fellows.
  • Secure Support: Support fellows in their work by facilitating introductions with relevant teams, advocating and securing support from relevant partners. Partner strongly with assigned fellows, ensuring they are well set up to succeed.
  • Planning, Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Support fellowship team with fellows’ progress reporting and planning, including (1) crafting and checking in on individual work plans, (2) communicating progress on work-plans to hosts and to Mozilla, (3) completing progress reports as per agreed schedule.

Work Across the Organization

  • You actively work across the team to support (a) fellowship onboarding, (b) host organization onboarding, (c) work weeks, (d) capstone events, (e) funders presentations, (f) off-boarding, (g) alumni (past cohorts) engagement and (h) other programming events.
  • You work collaboratively with the communications team helping Mozilla to position and tell the story of our investments in leaders broadly to funders, to the press, and to the public at large and track the impact of this coverage. This includes: through (a) community calls, (b) staff calls or brown bags with fellows, (c) blogs and press articles.
  • You support integration of the fellows into other initiatives at Mozilla, MozFest, Advocacy and Internet Health Report by facilitating interactions with relevant internal partners.

Skills & Experience:

  • 10-12 years of relevant job experience; BA/BS, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confirmed ability to work independently and in cross-functional, distributed teams
  • Validated experience of navigating and criss-crossing organizational lines to find support for programs and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals
  • Experience as a fellow or working with fellowship programs preferred
  • Direct experience with internet policy issues (gained at an advocacy organization or at government) preferred
  • Experience of working across multiple countries is a huge plus
