Java Software Developer

The Role

Working within the EDQ (Enterprise Data Quality) Product Development team within the Oracle Fusion Middleware Organization, the role focuses on the development of the Data Quality and Data Governance components in the company’s new Data Integration Platform Cloud (DIPC) service, which is in the early stages of development.

Whilst this is primarily a Java developer role, the position will encompass a range of activities, including analysis, design and testing at all levels. A willingness to take on a variety of different types of task and adapt to a dynamic and changing environment is key. In addition, the UI part of the product is written in JET (Oracle's Javascript Extension Toolkit), and therefore significant Javascript experience and/or a willingness to work in this area would be a bonus.


  • Java and/or Javascript coding

  • Unit and integration testing

  • Analysis and design, including UI design where necessary

  • Defining interfaces and integration mechanisms between DIPC and other Oracle products

  • Reviewing deliverables produced by other staff’s design documents and source code

  • Responding to issues and bugs raised by the QA or support teams

  • Conforming to software development standards and procedures

  • Providing feedback on development tools and procedures and suggestions as to where improvements can be made

Relationships within the Company

  • Line management and appraisal by the EDQ Development Director

  • Collaboration with product management, other members of the DQ Scrum team (who are distributed across Europe and India), and other DIPC Scrum teams

  • General interactions with remote product development staff in other parts of Oracle, in particular in India and the US (although note that actual travel is not expected)

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree educated with a minimum of 3 years experience

  • Experience of either software product development, or development and maintenance of a long life in-house system

Required Technical Skills

  • Java EE (Enterprise Edition)

  • Oracle WebLogic Server

  • SQL

  • REST

  • XML

  • Linux

Experience of any of the following would be advantageous:

  • JavaScript

  • Git

  • Maven

  • Eclipse or Intellij

  • Agile methodologies, in particular Scrum

  • Web application development

  • Cloud service development

  • User interface design, including usability and accessibility

  • Data analysis, data quality, data governance, business intelligence, dashboards/reporting, etc

  • Oracle Database

  • Relational data modelling

Qualities and Characteristics

  • Bright and self-motivated

  • A positive can-do attitude and a willingness to learn and develop knowledge of new tools and techniques

  • An ability to work with the rest of the team (face-to-face and remotely), and to pro-actively build relationships outside the immediate team

  • An ability to communicate ideas, concepts and concerns clearly both in writing and verbally

Candidates must be based in the UK and able to work some days from the office in Cambridge.
